Be a Model to Children in Practicing Good Oral Hygiene

Though it is true that many people get periodontal disease as they age and their gums begin to recede, it does not mean that little ones are exempted from having one too. Kids can certainly get gum infection, and many do. Periodontal disease on kids in some cases is the least severe form, gingivitis. But in some cases, it is full-blown periodontal disease.

To avoid gum infection, practice your kids to make dental hygiene a habit. Brushing with them right before bed time and teaching them how to use floss is a good way to learn the routine by themselves. Overtime, they will not be comfortable going to bed without brushing and flossing. One way to keep children’s teeth healthy is to have them visit the dentist at least twice a month. This is more often than an adults schedule of dental visits because kids love sweets.

For adults experiencing sensitive teeth, whether to heat, cold or pressure, there are special toothpastes that can be tried. But it is suggested to seek the advice of a dentist to check on the sensitivity level as it may indicate a more serious problem, such as cavity or nerve inflammation (irritation). If the irritation has started to develop, the offending particle will usually need to be flushed out by your dentist and the area treated with an antibiotic. Irritation can also easily occur due to an outside trauma or injury that occurred during a dental procedure. Symptoms of any disease if visible should be given attention at once. Seeing the doctor regularly is a big help to see symptoms that does not show early on.

As adults, we need to take good care of our teeth and oral health because children will follow what we do. Going to the dentist and using products along with extra time brushing the teeth on the areas near the salivary glands may slow down the development of tooth decay causing plaque. This should be avoided at all cost because for severe cases, the procedures can be diagnosis and x-rays, scaling/root planing, gingival flap surgery and other difficult treatments.

There are many treatments available but it depends on the degree of severity. However, as cliché as it may sound, prevention is better than treatment. Treating gum infection can be very expensive. So it is best to start taking care of your mouth and teeth to prevent any mouth problem.

The Danger of Periodontal Disease in All Stages of Life

No matter what form of gum disease you have, this will pose danger to the bone structure supporting the teeth. This bone structure provides support and is the one that holds the teeth in place. Therefore, it is vital that care should be taken to keep it as healthy and as undamaged as possible. As soon as the gum problem is detected, you can contact your dentist and consult about what your gum issue is and what ways to follow as solutions. With the expert guidance of your dentist; the bone that is susceptible to periodontal disease due to bacterial action can be fixed in no time.

You are more vulnerable to loss of teeth when you reach adulthood, especially when you are already in your thirties and forties. However, if you try to think closely about it, your gum diseases actually started when you were still quite young. Gingivitis is the beginning stage of this condition and has been observed in people of all ages.

Bacterial infection that takes place below the gum line occurs because of the plaque-forming action of bacteria in the sustaining structure of the teeth. When this structure gets worn out, you will observe that your gums have receded though this did not occur quickly but in a slow manner. Therefore, it is not hard to understand that the likelihood of getting periodontal disease started when you were still at a young age and you took your oral health for granted. If not, it is also possible that you will still acquire this in later life if you did not previously have it.

The development of healthy oral care practices when you are young is vital to prevent losing your teeth later in life. You will be very proud with yourself when you still have your teeth while other people of your age are already losing them. As soon as the supporting bone of the teeth gets damaged, the teeth get loose and you may just blame yourself later because you have seen how awful the damage is. The supporting bone may not be as strong to hold the tooth in position and you may lose your teeth at anytime.

Periodontal disease is the major reason why you lose your teeth. There is a need to think about the gum issue, plan your daily regimen well, and accomplish it readily. Starting this early is a must, to avoid the gum problem from getting worse and may lead to tooth loss to which you may be sorry afterwards.
